OX-100X Handheld Oxygen Weld Monitor: How it Works
OX ™ -100X Quick Instructions
Calibration:
The OX-100X and its components are factory calibrated and certified.
- Move OFF – SPOT – CAL/CONT. switch to CAL/CONT. position, engaging the pump motor.
- The motor will start briefly and the digital display will show “CAL” to indicate Calibration mode.
- Once the motor starts again, allow automatic calibration sensor to detect oxygen level in ambient air for up to 5 minutes.
- After 5 minutes, hold SET button for a few seconds until CAL appears again.
- Successful calibration indicated by “CAL” on the digital display, unsuccessful calibration indicated by “CAL” and then “BAD”.
Spot Measurement:
- After calibration, place probe in desired location.
- Move OFF – SPOT – CAL/CONT. switch to SPOT position.
- The OX-100X Weld Monitor will perform the startup test routine for two seconds.
- The digital display will show “run” to indicate that it is in the SPOT operation mode.
- Press and hold the SET button for at least 1 second to initiate SPOT mode. The pump motor will draw the sample gas in through the probe. The display will change to “---“ to indicate that the unit is in SPOT mode. This process will take approximately 20 seconds.
- After spot sampling is complete, the digital display will show the oxygen measurement. The monitor will continuously update the oxygen concentration measurements for a duration of 30 seconds.
- The pump motor will then stop and display the last measured oxygen concentration for a duration of 30 seconds and then the unit will go into sleep mode and shut down the display.
- To wake the unit, press the SET button momentarily. The unit will display “run”.
- To start another sample cycle, press and hold the SET button for at least 1 second.
- Slide the three-way switch to OFF (far left) to end timed operation mode.
Continuous Measurement:
- After calibration, move OFF – SPOT – CAL/CONT. switch to CAL/CONT. position.
- Pump and sensor will run automatically and continuously.
- The digital display will show O2 concentration until switch is moved to OFF.
- Slide the three-way switch to OFF (far left) to end continuous operation mode.
Maintenance
IMPORTANT: To prolong the life of the Oxygen Sensor, the sponge filter should have the moisture squeezed out of it whenever it is saturated. This will vary with the moisture content of the sample and initially should be checked after every 20 samples. The sponge filter may be washed in ordinary soap and water. Be sure to thoroughly rinse and dry the filter before reinstalling it.
The Oxygen Sensor
The OX-100X Oxygen Sensor is a small, fuel cell that measures oxygen volume directly. The size of a “C” cell flashlight battery, the OX-100X Oxygen Sensor is disposable. Please dispose of the Oxygen Sensor in accordance to local laws regarding disposing batteries.
Oxygen Sensor Replacement
If sensor will no longer calibrate it should be replaced.
- Unscrew sensor cover retaining screw.
- Loosen black and red sensor lead screws.
- Remove oxygen sensor and clean out housing.
- Before replacing sensor, insert new sensor leads under black and red sensor lead screws.
- Place sensor in housing with plain end up and sensing end (with hole) down as shown in picture.
- Tighten black and red sensor lead screws.
- Replace sensor housing cover and tighten retaining screw
- Recalibrate the OX™-100X Oxygen Weld Monitor.

OX-100X Storage
The OX-100X should be stored in a location where it will not be subjected to temperature extremes. It should never be stored in temperatures below 32°F (0°C) for extended periods of time.
Short Term Storage
To extend the life of the sensor and batteries, remove after use. However, if impractical, do not store the Oxygen Sensor and batteries for more than one month in the unit. To further prolong battery life the OX-100X Oxygen Weld Monitor should be switched to the OFF position when not in use. For short term storage, the OX-100X Oxygen Weld Monitor should be kept at a temperature between 50°– 104°F (10°– 40°C).
Long Term Storage
The batteries and Oxygen Sensor should be removed when the OX-100X Oxygen Weld Monitor is to be stored for more than a month. The Oxygen Sensor should be stored in its vial. Additional sensor life can be obtained by refrigerating the sensor in its vial at recommended temperature range of 40°- 45°F (4°- 7°C). Care should be taken NOT to FREEZE the unit.
OX-100X Troubleshooting
- Check particulate filter for moisture or debris.
- Clean and dry sensor and housing.
- Check sensor lead connections for tightness or corrosion.
- Recalibrate the OX-100X.
